Summer has Arrived!

Summer has arrived and you know what that means- Road Trip!  There is nothing as fun as hitting the road and discovering new places. When I was little my grandparents would take my brother and I with them in their motor home every summer. It was always so much fun. As an adult I took a trip with my best friend and her three little boys to Ohio and that was quite the adventure! Nothing like 3 boys under 6 and a long drive!

Gluten Free Bloggers for Traveling

Inspiration

When I was first diagnosed with Celiac disease I went through all kinds of emotions fear and anger, but mostly confusion. I did not know where to begin. I found most of my help in gluten free bloggers. Articles like, 8 Steps to Easy Gluten Free Grocery Shopping, helped me learn to navigate the ropes, but then it was time to plan a vacation.

I was filled with dread. I could barely navigate the grocery store, how would I figure out a whole new city. My husband and I based our vacations around food. We honeymooned in New Orleans just so we could eat our way around the city. Where would we go that I could eat and not be stressed about it the whole time?

The 5th Annual Gluten-Free Expo

If you live in Florida, you do not want to miss the 5th annual Gluten-Free for Life Expo in St. Petersburg, Florida. This one day event will take place on March 26th.  The expo is a fun-filled family event designed to provide education and awareness of Celiac Disease and Gluten Intolerance. There will be vendors, raffles, face painting for the kids, and great speakers and teachers. This years Expo is shaping up to be an awesome event and I am beyond excited to have a part in it as a blog sponsor! I cannot wait to be in a place where everything is gluten-free and I won’t have to explain what Celiac is 100 times. I love educating people, but sometimes it’s nice to be able to relax (and try samples without worrying!).

Gluten-Free Goodness!

I don’t know about you, but I love getting gifts. It does not have to be a big gift. Little gifts are fine too. When I was teaching, I loved getting all kinds of different gifts during the holidays. Student’s would bring ornaments and all kinds of little things. It was so much fun.

Now that I am out of the teaching game I don’t get as many gifts for Christmas, just a few from my family, but that doesn’t mean I love them any less. Below I have given you just a few things that are on my wish list that I am sure anyone, gluten-free or not, would love! All the items below are not only gluten-free, but are also safe for those with Celiac!

Happy Halloween from My Gluten Free Miami

Halloween Post

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween!

I know what you are thinking:

“Who made that amazing pumpkin?”

It was my amazing husband. He is so awesome and so supportive. Remember when he wrote Confessions From the Husband of a Celiac? He is just so great. Having celiac disease is not always easy, but when you have a great support system it definitely helps!

Halloween is now just a few days away, and I know what you are thinking, “Can I eat the candy?” Halloween is about more than little kids dressing up in cute costumes (my daughter is going to be a captain from StarTrek, if you don’t already follow me on Instagram you should, there will be pictures! @myglutenfreemiami) it is about seeing how much candy you can eat without getting sick.

8 Gluten-free Beers to Celebrate Oktoberfest

I got a text from my brother the other day. He was sitting at a bar in Wisconsin (land of micro-breweries) when he heard someone ask if they had any gluten-free beers. He immediately thought of me and asked why I hadn’t done a post on gluten-free beer for Oktoberfest. It was a great idea. I immediately called up my dad, the beer connoisseur of the family and invited him over for a gluten-free beer taste test. After a few more phone calls and trip to Total Wine and More we were set for a gluten-free beer tasting. All beer prices are what was paid at Total Wine and More and may vary from store to store. These are all honest opinions and I was in no way compensated for any reviews.

Upon going gluten-free, eating out can become a nightmare. It can be like playing Russian Roulette. Unless the place is 100% gluten-free, you are never going to be 100% sure that what you are eating does not have traces of gluten. No matter how hard you try to plan ahead, and bring your own lunch, it is going to happen. One day, you are going to be out running errands, and all of a sudden it is lunch time. You need to pick up something, but you really don’t have time to sit down. I’m going to be honest with you. There really are not a whole lot of choices. No one has come up with a gluten-free fast food restaurant….yet. Don’t dismay, there may not be a lot of choices, but I have found a few where you can pick up a gluten free friendly fast food meal without it taking a lot of time.
