I was first introduced to this dip by my step-mother. It is a family recipe that they made for every occasion. Super simple, and always a crowd pleaser it is a dip that we had at every family get together. I loved it so much I started keeping it on hand for veggies at my house. Even my friends kids love it! Unfortunately, the original recipe was a bit high in fat and calories, made with sour cream and mayonnaise, it wasn’t exactly figure friendly. With a few simple adjustments I was able to boost the protein and lower the fat, without sacrificing any flavor! The healthy, delicious, gluten free addition to your latest get together- Dill Dip! The Switch for a Healthier Dill Dip
The not so secret ingredient in this dip is Fat Free Greek Yogurt. Greek yogurt is an awesome, healthy substitute for sour cream. Fat free and full of protein, it is doesn’t sacrifice any of the flavor. It also comes in a great pre-measured cup! Personally, I’m not a huge Greek yogurt fan if I’m eating it plain, or even with fruit, but I love to use it for dips. Another switch I make to the original recipe is using a low fat mayonnaise. It helps cut calories a bit, and there is no flavor difference. Add some fresh dill and a bit of onion salt and you have a dip, that will have you buying veggies just to eat it!
I’ve found that it keeps for quite a few days in the fridge and I love to keep a container of cut up veggies with it for a quick snack whenever the craving hits. I’ve even been known to eat it on gluten free crackers when I ran out of veggies (though this negates the healthy factor). Next time you need to take an appetizer to an event, whip up this dill dip, you won’t regret it!
