Sweet and Simple Gluten Free Baking Cookbook is a great intro to gluten free baking!
This book was given to me as swag at FABlogCon. All opinions are my own.
Gluten Free Baking
One of the hardest things for people when first going gluten free is trying to navigate the world of gluten free baking. There are so many different kinds of flours and everyone has their own mix. It gets so confusing. Chrystal Carver, from Gluten Free Palate, has written a cookbook with over 75 easy to follow gluten free baking recipes that require 10 ingredients or less. She even includes a recipe for a simple gluten free flour blend that anyone can make!
A Love for Cookbooks
I am a huge cookbook fan. I love buying them whenever I travel, the more pictures the better. If you ever want to buy me a present, a cookbook is always a great gift. Most people buy cookbooks and never use them. I actually use mine, I love to pull them out and meal plan, make little notations about what I want to try and fill them up with sticky note bookmarks.
When I received Sweet and Simple Gluten Free Baking, I was so excited to try a recipe out of it. I can’t very well recommend a cookbook without trying out a recipe.
One would think coming out of the Thanksgiving season I would be over pie, but I hadn’t actually made an apple one recently, so I decided to give Chrystal’s galette style version a try.
Easy as Apple Pie
The recipe was so easy to follow. I did cheat and use GFJules gluten free flour. I don’t have space for the different kinds of flour (Literally no space, my kitchen is 3 feet by 3 feet…for those of you who aren’t great with measurements that is very small!).
Other than that I followed it exactly. The crust came together easily. It was slightly crumbly, but I think it was my fault for not adding enough milk. The instructions do say to make sure it is slightly wet, mine was a bit too dry.
The apple mixture was easy to put together. I think I may have had a bit too much of it, but then again can you really have too much apple pie filling?
Putting it together was a snap. Baked it up and it was delicious! I’m sure the other recipes are just as easy. With the holidays coming, I can’t wait to try more recipes from the book!
