Gluten Free Marinara Sauce

I know what your thinking. Isn’t all marinara sauce gluten free? Most are, but you can never be too careful. I love making it at home because I can control the ingredients a little bit easier.

I like to add fresh garlic and lots of Italian seasoning. This sauce is so rich, it’s perfect for air fryer mozzarella sticks (coming soon!) or these cheezy gluten free breadsticks.

It’s so dippable (I think that’s a word).

The Basics of Marinara Sauce

I feel like marinara sauce has a few basic components- garlic, tomatoes, and Italian Seasoning. The reason I call this 5-minute sauce is I take a few shortcuts.

To start with, I used a can of tomato sauce. It came in my American Gluten Free Box. I usually don’t like sauces with any seasonings already added, but this can of Muir Glen was perfect. This brand is great because there was no sugar added, but you can use any brand you like.

I did press out my own garlic. I always have fresh on hand, but instead of chopping onions, I used a bit of onion powder. Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of pieces of onion in my food.

Finally, I used premade Italian Seasoning. I will tell you. I thought all Italian Seasonings were created equal until I tried the one from Tiny Little Chefs. These seasonings are phenomenal. You can use your favorite or if you want to try hers, use the code GFMIAMI for 20% off on the site.

What do you use Gluten Free Marinara Sauce for?

Really the skies the limit. Marinara sauce is a little bit thicker than your average tomato sauce. I love to use it on pizza, and for anything that can be dipped.

One of these days I will create a recipe for gluten free fried calamari. I had to watch my husband eating it the other day and I was so jealous. Now I’m craving it!

Easy gluten free marinara sauce. Comes together quickly and perfect for dipping.

  • 1 15 ounce can gluten free tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons chopped garlic (2 cloves)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • pinch of red pepper flakes
  • 1 Tablespoon Italian Seasoning

  1. Heat olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add garlic and saute for one minute.
  3. Add tomato sauce, salt, onion powder, red pepper flakes and Italian seasoning.
  4. Simmer for another 4 minutes.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary.

I prefer to use a tomato sauce that has no sugar added. Be sure to taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
