It should come as no surprise that my family loves meat. We eat meat at almost every meal, but I strive to find quality meats to feed my family. Growing up, my father would hunt, so it wasn’t unusual for us to eat deer and wild boar, or other game meats, in addition to your normal beef, chicken, and pork.

Being grown and married, I don’t have access to these fresh meats like I used to. Enter Roo Nutrition. I am so excited to be partnering with them to bring you this amazing Wild Boar Meatball recipe and also tell you a bit more about how they deliver high-quality meat, straight to you, with no monthly subscription required.

We have received two boxes of meat from Roo Nutrition so far and there are more than a couple reasons why I love them. Some of them come down to practicality, others because of their mission.

  1. It stayed frozen. I live in Miami, it is hot. Usually, our UPS runs in the morning. This particular day it ran at 8:00 at night. I was sure it was going to be a mess, but everything was perfect.
  2. The bags don’t leak. When I thawed my first package of meat I, of course, put it in a bowl so that when the package leaked it wouldn’t make a mess. It didn’t leak at all, plus the meat was exactly the color you would expect if you had bought it fresh from the store.
  3. Variety. You cannot beat the variety. Bones for bone broth from various animals, both organic and game meat. All kinds of game meat (which I have learned is often higher in nutrients like iron), plus your typical beef, pork, and chicken. On top of that, they also offer organ meats.
  4. Quality. Everything we have tried thus far has been amazing. The meat is lean, I don’t find myself trimming fat off of it. On top of that, it’s extremely flavorful.
  5. Ethical. Roo Nutrition makes every possible effort to ensure their meats are ethically raised.
  6. It’s not a subscription. You pick the meat you want to order when you want to order it. Shipping is free and the costs for this quality meat are the same, if not better than the grocery store. Plus, you will never find this kind of selection at the grocery store.

Back to the Wild Boar Meatball Taco Bowl

I am head over heels for wild boar meat. It has this naturally smokey flavor that just can’t be beaten. It almost reminds me of when you add ground bacon to pork. So good. It makes an amazing wild boar meatball.

I’ve been playing around with different meatball recipes and one of our favorites is taco meatballs. Super easy and perfect on top of a taco bowl.

I use a high-quality taco seasoning (you can make your own or buy one that has no sugar or weird stuff added), add some cilantro, tiny bit of lime zest, salt (if your seasoning doesn’t have it, mine doesn’t), an egg, and some gluten free breadcrumbs.

Add these delicious wild boar meatballs on top of quinoa and black beans with corn and top with all your favorite taco toppings. Easy, delicious, and will have everyone coming back for more. For those that like a little more spice, I added a bit of spicy mayo to the top.

Making Organic/Wild Meat Work for Our Budget

I know many people feel like ordering organic/ wild meats is out of their price range. I totally get it. We work off a strict grocery budget. If you have ever seen the cost for rent in Miami, then you would know why.

I still strive to feed my family quality meats, the trick I have found is paying attention to the serving size. My husband can eat a one-pound steak, but he shouldn’t.

The wild boar used in this recipe was 12.67. It made 12 good sized meatballs, which was perfect for 3-4 servings. Even with the quinoa and other ingredients, it was under 20.00 to create this meal and I felt great about the quality of ingredients I was feeding my family.

  1. This bowl looks delicious! I’m excited to find a source for game meat and traditional meats, as well as bones for broth. I checked out the company website, and I like their philosophy.
